The Power of Guerilla Marketing

Macworld 2011 was taken over by a sea of pink last Thursday and Friday as PicScout set out to spread the word about ImageExchange among the 40,000 Mac enthusiasts who registered for the 4-day conference and trade show.

Guerilla marketing works well when you can combine user enthusiasm with a legitimate reason for being at an event, and it works even better when you can give something of value to your target audience.

For Macworld, PicScout had more than 50 ImageExchange users participate in pre-event webinars to become even more knowledgeable about ImageExchange and our promotional partner, SnapilyPro. Afterwards, the team was ready to share the exciting news about both products at Macworld.

On Thursday, the ImageExchange team spent the morning encouraging conference-goers to hear PicScout’s Amy Love and SnapilyPro’s Jeff Miller demo the latest in digital imaging on the Macworld Live stage. Ms. Love explained the timesaving benefits of ImageExchange to a packed house, and Mr. Miller presented Snapily’s exclusive 3D and motion printing technology.

Attendees received motion cards that highlighted ImageExchange and offered a 25% discount on SnapilyPro orders. As part of our commitment to growing the image marketplace, we also gave audience members show-specific flyers with discount coupons to content from four PicScout ImageIRC content partners.

One thing’s for sure: few left the conference unaware of the PicScout sea of pink. More than 50 ImageExchange representatives wore bright pink sweatshirts boasting, “I don’t waste my time. I use PicScout ImageExchange.” Cult of Mac blogger Traci Dauphin included a snapshot of the PicScout team in her blog post, noting, “I see pink people everywhere! These pinksters from PicScout ImageExchange were out in full force!”

Bottom-line: guerilla marketing at its finest.

(By the way, we were asked many times if we were selling our sweatshirts. The answer was no, but we are giving some away. Just comment on this blog, or tweet this post by using the “Share/Bookmark” button, and you’ll be automatically entered to win!)
