A transformative view of Imaging—6Sight Future of Imaging, Monterey, CA this week

Amateurs might want to consider the value of their images before someone else does. This happened to one of our own PicScout team members. Her husband, an amateur photographer, photographed our team member while they were on vacation. Weeks later, after returning home, they received a promotional mailing from the lodge where they had stayed. In their advertisement about the lodge’s many assets, the company had incorporated a slightly altered version of the very photograph our team member’s husband had taken. It was discovered that the lodge had acquired the image through Flickr without permission. The lodge thought the amateur’s image was valuable enough to promote their business, while the amateur photographer hadn’t considered the importance of getting credit for his image until it was too late.

Amateur images from sources like Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket, and others offer refreshing content; and when an easy connection between buyers and amateur sellers can be made, images are properly credited and can be monetized appropriately.

As I’ve been writing here for some weeks, PicScout is on a determined course where every image gets its credit – providing much needed solutions for creative professionals and image owners. This means every image is usable, saleable, and trackable – this holds true for both the most seasoned photographer and the amateur alike. So, we’re anxious to hear, look at, explore and contribute to the state of the art and the future as presented at the 6Sight conference – we anticipate quite a dialogue as our industry continues to undergo fundamental changes in terms of how images are found, used and monetized.

If you’re in the Bay Area, consider attending the conference and introducing yourself to Amy Love, our VP of Marketing and Business Development who will be sharing more about our thoughts on image monetization.

PicScout at the Digital Innovation Summit in Berlin March 2009

Offir speaking at the Digital Innovators Summit, Berlin, March 2009I just came back from the Digital Innovation Summit in Berlin organized by VDZ where PicScout was invited to speak about its leading image tracking service as part of the Search and Content Session .

VDZ is a German organization of 400 publishers together producing more than 3,000 titles. The Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute also sponsored the event and helped scout out innovative Israeli companies in the digital media and software space.

The summit hosted young and innovative companies from Israel and USA among of them were companies like Kaltura, Clicktale, Tvinchi, Dapper and PicScout which showecased their company and solutions for the digital media market.

I was amazed to see how the traditional print industry is seeking for help and innovation in order to leverage their brand into the digital world. We were sharing how their evolution to online from print was similar to the evolution stock agencies had moving from 35mm to e-commerce websites.

Next month I will speak at the American Bar Association’s Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference which will discuss how emerging technologies, like the PicScout’s ImageTracker, can solve problems relating to “orphan works”.
